Seaboard got involved in the road bike market in early 2013, and they have released several nice steel frames since then, among which the CR03 is the latest one that has a modern geometry.
The CR03 has a 44mm tapered head tube with an external headset. The down tube also starts at 44m and then reduces twice to get a higher stiffness. The chain stay is rectangle-like shaped cross section and reduces from 30mm to 20mm, which produces a better bottom bracket lateral stiffness compared with the traditional shaped tubing. On the other side, the seat stay uses a slim tubing to offer a better comfort. The derailleur hanger is a CNC-ed stainless steel piece, instead of integrating on the frame.
However, while the seat stay tubing is the heat treated 4130 CrMo, other parts are normal 4130 CrMo. The frame weighs 1.9kg with the stainless-steel hanger and the carbon fork weighs 350g.

This is a steel road bike with an unexpected comfort. Don’t be feared by the sturdy down tube and the untraditional shaped chain stay. The geometry is not aggressive with STR around 1.5 (50, 53 and 56), and plus a well filter of the vibration, which makes the riding extremely comfortable. IMO, the comfort of the CR03 with 4130 CrMo tubing is compatible with a 3/2.5 Ti frame bike.
The response to pedaling has been a weakness of most steel bikes, and compared with racing-aimed carbon bikes, it could be remarked that almost all the steel frame is “procrastination”. Unfortunately, the CR03 is not an exception. However, the 44mm down tube and the rectangle-like-shaped chain stay compensate a lot. I didn’t feel too much dragged by the bike while climbing around 3%, even with the 1.75kg old Zonda (1.8kg incl. rim tape). Off course it’s not that active as both the frame and the wheelset are not on the light side.
